Unedited Interview Reveals O’Reilly Factor Pulled No Punches From Jon Stewart Interview

video

Last night Fox News posted the full and unedited version of the most recent interview, between Bill O’Reilly and Jon Stewart. But unlike the last Stewart appearance on The Factor, in which several of his most pointed critiques directed at Fox News were edited out of the segments that aired, the unedited version of this week’s interview reveals that O’Reilly Factor kept the best and most trenchant commentary of the entire segment that ended up on air. Kudos!

Though they may fundamentally disagree on many topics, O’Reilly and Stewart appear to genuinely like and respect each other, which is just one of the reasons why interviews between the two cable news giants are so entertaining. But perhaps more importantly, they can disagree without being disagreeable despite their seeming desire to stay true to their very different and loyal audiences.

The actual taped interview appears to clock in just under 30 minutes in length, and watching the interview unedited and in its entirety reveals a flow that as lost in versions that aired (that was understandably cut for time.) The most significant portion missing, however, was the continued jokes about The Weather Girls, singers of Its Raining Men, a group that O’Reilly appeared to (jokingly) defend.

they did that last time too

I don’t know why Stewart goes on the show. The editing is always, always suspect.

  • writer

Stewart wasn’t even there. They used a green screen and CGIs.

Well, Colby Hall, an unabashed liberal just wrote that the editing wasn’t suspect. But, you wouldn’t know cuz you didn’t actually watch the interview did you and the unedited piece did you? Didn’t think so.

lol check the edited and aired version on Bono and this…

I always watch Stewart, and I saw the unedited piece. I didn’t criticize the editing. Editing is always suspect. That’s not a conviction, it’s merely cautionary.

My belief Stewart shouldn’t go on is that the much touted chemistry between Stewart and Bill-o seems lacking to me Stewart brings out the best in Bill-o, but I’m not sure the converse is true.

Now. Stand Down. Go about your paranoia.

From now on, Stewart will contact the King before picking which shows to appear on.

Wouldn’t it be great if all news networks allowed access to unedited interview video? Could you imagine the folks at CBS News and 60 Minutes — who have earned their bread and butter for decades by pulling quotes out of context — ever allowing us to see beyond their “filtering” and “purifying” (= censoring) of the news? Once again, Fox stands out for its honesty and integrity.

Maybe MSNBC could start be releasing the full video of all those times Keith Olbermann debated leading conservatives…. Whoops! I forgot that Olbermann never debated leading conservatives. He just filled his show with puppets who agreed with his every statement.

Awesome interview. You can’t help but like both these Joisey Jerkynuts. TV at it’s finest.

  • Jerps

Two people from different networks, with different opinions and worldviews, meeting face-to-face and debating without being disrespectful. Would that it could happen more often.

  • notsofast

    And who cares?

This was something that might change the world as we know it?

    Get a life.

  • Skippy

    Squeeeeeze me?

Billdo launched a challenge to Stewart to come on Billdo’s show to “debate the Common controversy”

Dumbsht Stewart rolls over and goes to Billdo so HE, Billdo, can milk Stewart into 2 shows.

    Score:

    Billdo – 10
    Dumbsht Stewart – 0

“which is just one of the reasons why interviews between the two cable news giants are so entertaining”

Cable news giants? Is Stewart news or comedy/entertainment? Doesn’t he hide behind the “I’m a comedian” argument quite a bit?

Is he news or comedy Colby? PICK ONE and stick with it.

I didn’t know you were a Keith Olbermann groupie, Felix.

What nick do you use at Keith Olbermann Watch?

How about CBS starting with those 0bama comments where he called Americans “slugs”.

Actually I was thinking the unedited Olbermann video tapes could be used on captured terrorists. As a substitute for waterboarding.

I saw this briefly and don’t know if O Reilly corrected Stewarts misimpression on one topic.

They were discussing Michelle Bachmann and O Reilly was cajoling Stewart that in actuality he really likes Bachmann and Stewarts answer was that he wished that in her reply to the SOTU broadcast that she wouldnt have delivered the entire thing not looking into the camera.

I thought it was common knowledge that there were three cameras broadcasting her rebuttal and one of those was provided by her sponsor, some conservative group which was streaming it live. And when you see their version, she is indeed looking into their camera the entire time.

So didnt he know this? It seems like a sily mistake to make. If youre going to try and cheap shot some conservative about her telepresence shouldnt you actually know whats what?

Thank you for the unedited interview, Mediaite. I’m ashamed of myself for not thinking of seeking this out on my own.

Fox ginned up this phony controversy to counter Obama’s bump in popularity after the Bin-Laden raid. It’s that simple.

  • Dem4Ever

Yet one more wonderful reason for thoughtful people to tune into FOX.  You can not get such high standards of ethics anywhere else.

  • BarneyFranken

I think the unedited interview makes Stewart look worse, not better.

The more Stewart expanded his argument, the more it was evident he was dodging the overall premise.

Stewart said numerous times that “I can’t speak for Common” and then immediately did. He admits to not knowing the guy, but in the same breath knows Common’s specific intentions?

Stewart refused to say whether he thought it was a good idea to invite Common, only to say “If I were President I’d have better things to do than host a poetry slam” – So is that a no Jon?

Perhaps the weakest part was the “what if” game Jon was trying to play, saying “what if Bono visited Leonard Peltier?” as Common did with Assata Shakur- sure Jon, and what if pigs could fly?

The ‘what if ‘game disseminates the facts of the matter to make an non analogous situation more comparable. Its a weak rhetorical tactic- I thought the great Jon Stewart would be better than that.

I didn’t think O’Reilly did well in the interview, but the longer it went on, I’d say O’Reilly won by default. Stewart’s argument unraveled that badly.

  • MrTPar_taY

I thought the thing was that ‘common (what a turd) aka-what’s his last name again? was a self-admitted racist. That’s OK with certain members of the DemoKKKrupts or somebody would say something about it wouldn’t they? Shouldn’t somebody say that ‘common’s racist tendencies are accepted by the DemoKKKrupts. Shouldn’t somebody say that?

  • OZ

The more I see O’Reilly, the more I think he is going to leave Fox News.

Barney, get a grip. The reality, of this entire story, is that it is a non-story. It is only small minded individuals, like yourself, who feed off Obama bashing, that feel this story has any merit. You’ll never admit it, but if it weren’t for Fox News making such a big deal, out of this, you would have never known about “Common”. And truth be told, you probably didn’t have a clue who “Common” is, before Fox made this an issue. Most Americans had no idea there was a poetry reading being held, at the White House. And most Americans could give a (sh1p) less, about it. But Fox News, totally devoid, of any meaningful news, to report on, had to create a story, so the entire network had something, to talk about, and keep the simple minds, of their viewers occupied.

  • Persistence

FWIW, it almost seems like Bill-O is evolving. Almost.

O’Reilly probably perceives that it sure can’t help his bona fides to be associated ideologically w/ the likes of Beck. And if there’s one thing O’Reilly wants more than celebrity, it’s to be taken seriously as a “journalist.” Well, maybe not “more than,” but certainly in addition to.

He isn’t, of course, and might never quite get there … too little, too late … but acting against his and, more significantly, Fox’ stereotype by airing Stewart’s more substantive comments got him some points with an audience that usually doesn’t visit the carnival.

‘Course, he better be careful. Rupert & Roger can only stand so much fairness and balance before pulling the plug.

You sure do, use alot, of commas!

I never said the story was a big deal to me. I simply didn’t think Stewart’s arguments were that good.

What I do have a problem with is Stewart. The Daily Show is every bit of a “selective outrage machine” as fox news. Therefore Stewart pontificating on what Fox News decides to cover is first and foremost politically motivated- which is exactly what he accuses Fox of doing.

In my mind he is a hypocrite, a weak debater, and lacks objectivity or credibility.

falafel evolving? That’d be nice-really, but I think it’s more that everyone lese at FNC is regressing into freakdom-just ask the Secret Service ;)

QUESTION for anyone–since Fox is s’posed to be a NEWS organization–shouldn’t BillO be able (have the ABILITY to) conduct a live interview? How about one where he isn’t safely tucked into BillOland? Seriously-b/c I can’t seem to find out–WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME OREILLY DID A LIVE_ interview? (with someone other than fox sychophant) How about Bill last interview one OUTSIDE FOX STUDIOS? Was it the day he ran screaming from Terry Gross at NPR?

In fact, I bet this “Common” guy is nothing but a right wing plant intended to set Obama up!

I am outraged by this selective outrage!

  • hgarner2000

Sometimes I worry that the folks on the right are too threatened by anyone from the left who is a staunch supporter of traditional family values which I think can dovetail with women’s rights if we really want to respect their dignity. I think it’s important for the two political wings of this country to look for common ground on building stronger families. However, kudos to Bill O’Reilly for letting John Stewart have his say.
