Obama to Prince Harry: Concerning How People Get ‘Entirely Different Realities’ Online

Former President Barack Obama sat down for an interview with Prince Harry to talk about everything from President Donald Trumps inauguration to social media.

Obama talked about feeling “serenity” during that transition in January, before Prince Harry asked him about concerns of extremism and “fake news” on social media.

The former president lamented the “balkanization of our society” and said, “One of the dangers of the internet is that people can have entirely different realities.”

On the internet, he added, “everything is simplified” and talking to someone face-to-face can be very different than talking online (“it’s… harder to be as obnoxious and cruel in person.”)
