Stacey Dash talked with Steve Doocy today on Fox & Friends, where she said it was “ludicrous” that people were getting upset with the Oscar awards for not nominating any Black actors.
The awards ceremony has been the subject of scrutiny in the past few days, with Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith among the biggest African-American Hollywood figures to suggest that people not bother with it.
“We have to make up our minds, either we want to have segregation or integration,” Dash said. “If we don’t want segregation then we need to get rid of channels like BET and the BET Awards and the [NAACP] Image Awards, where you are only awarded if you are black. If it were the other way around, we would be up in arms, its a double standard.”
From there, Dash said the BET channel shouldn’t exist for the same reason that Black History Month should be axed, for not being counterbalanced by a White History Month. She also attributed the problem to President Obama not inspiring more racial inclusiveness in his Hollywood supporters, and that it was a “disservice” to accuse the Academy’s choices of being blatantly racist.
