There may have been no better friendship in the U.S. Senate over the last few terms than that of Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham. The latter has been in New York doing something of a media tour to provide insights and reflect on his relationship with the recently passed six-term Arizona senator and Vietnam War hero.
When asked how he was coping with McCain’s passing, an emotionally raw Graham simply said “I have been a basket case,” before thanking friends who have reached out in support. He then provided a lovely eulogy that was particularly moving and not the sort of thing one typically sees on the morning show programming. Graham said that if he could pick anyone “to explain America to someone from another planet, it would be John.”
Co-host Steve Doocy asked what was the last thing McCain said to him, and Graham replied: “I have not been cheated.”
His further explanation of what that meant was a proper remembrance for his dearly departed friend who served his country with honor, dignity, and character that seems sorely missing in politics today.
