Obama Distracted By Inner Monologue And Altitude During SNL Presidential Debate
Tonight SNL came up with what was perhaps the simplest explanation for President Obama‘s poor debate performance on Wednesday night: he forgot to buy his wife an anniversary present. Between this and an inner monologue that distracted Obama for most of the cold open, Mitt Romney easily won the re-imagined debate.
Obama opened the debate with a shoutout to his wife on their anniversary, but quickly panicked in an internal monologue realizing that he forgot to get an anniversary present. While Romney went on an elongated explanation of his economic plan (which Romney himself said would contain numerous “reversals of position” and “outright lies”), Obama came up with an elaborate plan to get the gift after the debate.
Unfortunately, the president was too distracted to realize that Romney claimed that he personally killed Osama bin Laden, and for the rest of the debate was distracted by the altitude.
Obama, however, wasn’t the only one to have an internal monologue, as Jim Lehrer bemoaned Romney promising to cut funding to PBS. After all, where else would we get quality programming like Downton Abbey and Bill Moyers?
