Poll: Majority of Americans Think It’s ‘Unfair’ to Criticize Obama for Golfing

Despite the increasing amount of cable news punditry devoted to President Barack Obama’s golf game and its “optics,” most people don’t seem to have a problem with it.

According to a poll conducted by (admittedly not the most definitive pollster out there), less than one-third are bothered by Obama’s golfing, and 54% believe it’s unfair to criticize a president for taking to the links to unwind.

When Obama’s name was added to the mix, the numbers shifted more toward his approval rating. However, as pointed out, “compared to the 87% of Republicans in the survey who have an unfavorable opinion of Obama, the 55% who say he plays too much golf could seem small.” Plus, only half who disapprove of Obama have a problem with his golf game, suggesting its not the widespread optics disaster pundits have claimed.

Obama has only taken one-third the vacation days as his predecessor, though he has played considerably more rounds of golf.
