Glenn Beck Likens Himself To Paul Revere In Discussing His Departure From Fox News

video

Glenn Beck wants to make it very clear that, despite the decision to leave his program on Fox News, he still very much believes that “we are heading for deep and treacherous waters.” This was the overriding note in oddly obscure discussion with his viewers, a “chat” that felt much less like an explanation than an acknowledgment of change with a reminder (tease?) of more content to come, perhaps on a different platform.

So why is Beck leaving? Its still not clear, apart from his need to do other things, but not as Beck clarifies, “because its good or bad for business.” In Beck’s esteem, his “only business is the business of freedom and our country at this time,” which if you believe (as so many of his viewers do), makes his Paul Revere reference an apt one. Beck made clear tonight that he will continue to sound the alarm to the roughly 1.5 Million viewers that regularly have tuned in at 5PM at Fox News to hear that alarm sound. Only in the future, it seems that Beck’s unique form of alarmist content will be mostly accessible on Beck owned platforms. Which is a good business to be in.

The Daily Beast’s Howard Kurtz seems to have the most thorough account about what happened:

“”"Despite his monster ratings, Fox News is bidding farewell to Glenn Beck as tensions between the incendiary host and the top-rated cable news channel have led to a near-total divorce.

I say near-total because the two sides announced a deal today in which Beck’s production company will produce occasional content for Fox. But insiders say this will amount to a handful of specials and that many senior Fox executives are relieved to be rid of Beck, whose ratings have dropped 40 percent.

Beck, too, has tired of the friction with Fox and is said by people close to him to be happy to end the partnership.”"”

The fat lady has sung. It’s over.

Beck’s running as an independent in 2012. Barack will be shaking in his pumps.

I think he’s more like his hero, Cleon Skousen, a certifiable lunatic and well known racist.

Sounds like Beck is going to produce several shows with Ailes for Fox News, Fox News web shows, or a whole new channel all together. Beck has been signing some pretty top flight talent like S.E. Cupp. It’s just a matter of where his new content is distributed.

  • slickerwick

Okay, now it’s MSNBC’s turn to dump someone. I’m betting it’ll be Matthews. Who says Matthews and who says Ed?

Did Paul Revere quit/get kicked out of the American Revolution?

You libs will just never get it. Everything is a vast right wing conspiracy to your dolts.

The powers that be in this country, both libs and ” real ” Americans KNOW that the country is on the cusp of something huge in 2012.

The Republicans are poised, if the Obama song ( broken record ) remains the same to sweep all three houses, including the White House.

You brain surgeons were still talking smack regarding the mid terms at dinner time and we kicked your muther____ ____es.

“FOX NEWS ” now the one to beat, is poised to become the premiere news source in America if the Republican’s sweep. Bigger than ABC, NBC, CBS combined, just like today and the cables.

Beck was ( possibly ) to far out there to take a chance with keeping him in the line up.

He will be a behind the scene strategist, cheerleader, father figure and magnet to his faithful.

I believe the Murdoch / Beck master plan, all along, was to have Glenn become an operations ( Karl Rove ) guru for the cause, for now, then if they can align the planets, like only Ailes can, Beck will announce his candidacy as an independent in January.

By that time Obama will have blown through 35% of the stimulus money he embezzled, not to mention the last nerve of the ” real ” American people.

  • Michael_T

Let me begin by saying I like Glenn. He’s funny, he’s entertaining and he seems like a perfectly decent person as best as I can tell.

But when I sit and watch Glenn Beck and try to make sense out of some of the information he puts out there I feel like I am listening to some radical preacher (or wacky professor) rambling on with a series of thinly connected sentences and conclusions that beg the question, “What in the hell is he really saying?”.

I feel like I need an interpreter to explain the hidden meanings, the innuendos, the circular logic, the confusion, the obfuscation and the hypothesizing. No wonder he lost viewers in recent months.

Goofy as goofy can be, Chris Tingles, is probably wetting his pants right now with a wild ass tingle going up his white as snow legs over this development. However, as smart as Ailes and others at Fox are OLD Tingles won’t gain one viewer to his total of 294 viewers. In fact, FOX News will put someone in Beck’s place that will do a ratings tsunami on Chris Matthews in that time slot. We can all rotffaloao…! Poor Chrissy, he’ll have to live with his place close to the bottom in the PMSnbc Looney Bin…..!!!!

  • Rusty Shackelford

I’m guessing he was as well like at Fox as Olbermann was at MSNBC.

  • WillP

Paul Revere? OMG. There is no doubt in my mind that Beck has some form of narcissistic personality disorder. And I don’t think you need a masters degree in psychology to come to such a conclusion. I made such a conclusion last summer when he attempted to usurp the legacy of Martin Luther King having that rally to restore honor on the mall. This guy is very dangerous to anyone who takes him seriously. I fear for his allegiance of dedicated, loyal followers who see him as a messianic type of figure.

Beck is wildly successful and his ascent to prominance was so fast and so easy, that as much as he will be missed personally, I doubt the substance of 5pm est on Fox will change much- maybe just the commercials.

As long as progressives work to destroy capitalism, there is a need for a show like Beck’s.

Mark Steyn would be a perfect guy to take over… but Roger Ailes definitely knows what he’s doing- I’m sure there is a worthy replacement already lined up.

absolutely beck was more important to tea party as opposed to ko to the non-extreme liberals.
the teajahdist would let beck dictate agenda and despite him telling you to do your own research, the majority would close their eyes and accept his distorted outlook as if he were a messiah.

Lets face it. When Beck stated Obama has a deep seated hatred for white people, or something like that. Glenn lost hundreds of advertisers ( big whup ). Barack Obama lost everything, if you really think about it.

That day was the beginning of the end of Obama’s subversion of the Constitution, our representative republic form of government, God and ” real ” American’s very way of life, not to mention his destoying what was left of our children’s future.

This is fairly simple: Proposed Ryan cuts atttack Medicare/Medicaid. Seniors and the poor.

Large voting block of Rs? Seniors.

Voter’s regret is starting to appear in WI… If OH et al. go the way of WI, it may also produce a similar backlash.

Which are the least impressed of the voters? Independents. Who will any party need to win? Independents.

Writer, this is pretty uncomplicated and basic. I know you guys screech for links, but you need to do some of your own research and facts gathering. Heck, endeavor to branch out and find the least partisan of them.

Example: go see what the CBO says about the Ryan Budget for 2012.

Honestly, if anyone was Very Serious about the budget, they’d be after Defense spending like no one’s business. Since we only spend 10X more than the next nation in defense (#2 is UK). We could also be honest and put the VA, etc., back under its true umbrella of Defense for a real cost.

It’s reprehensible to talk about cutting aid to women, poor, children and elderly when there is excessive Defense spending (ten frakking times more than next nation!) that could be raided and used to bail out states, invest in infrastructure, Pell Grants, etc. It’s reprehensible to not have Corporations pay their fair share in USA. Or the wealthiest of Americans paying the (dreaded) Clinton levels of taxes.

Sadly, the Ryan plan is Not Very Serious about anything of true substance.

I’m not here to gloat but I’d like to express my sympathies to those who feel that the obvious demotion of Glenn Beck in the American media sphere is a great loss. You sincerely and passionately think he was a force for good. I’ve watched many of his clips on various websites and occasionally tried to watch him on Fox, and was never able to understand the attraction. I had the same feeling watching Bush II throughout his career. I found both of them boring, uninfomed and completely disingenuous. Bush was and is an ignorant person who obviously had psychological development problems compounded by overuse of hard drugs. Beck is somewhat similar but much more charasmatic. It doesn’t say much about the judgment of those taken in by these less than ideal characters. Beck is no historian and certainly not factually accurate much of the time. And his doomsday stuff is Hollywood at its worst. He simply has been taking advantage of fearful, angry people who don’t understand change. He’s also a very spiritually confused person definely not living out the precepts of Jesus Christ. My sympathies, but you should look into yourselves for being taken in by this charlatan. For the rest of us – we’re simply amazed and appreciative of God that one of the most poisonous public voices has been diminished.

I say near-total because the two sides announced a deal today in which Beck’s production company will produce occasional content for Fox. But insiders say this will amount to a handful of specials and that many senior Fox executives are relieved to be rid of Beck, whose ratings have dropped 40 percent. Beck, too, has tired of the friction with Fox and is said by people close to him to be happy to end the partnership.””” The fat lady has sung. It’s over.

    Who does the budget target?
Who constitutes base of voters for R?
What is the mood amongst independents?

On one hand, showing leadership. On another, frakkin the least able over. All on the backs of the poor while benefiting the wealthy. The same wealthy that already apren’t paying taxes for their companies within the US.

Beck could accuse the Bush presidents of taking part in a sinister plot to create an Islamic caliphate. Beck could accuse of Obama of being a racist or a Marxist wanting to destroy America. He could discuss burning alive political opponents as he did Nancy Pelosi. We could go on and on ad finitum of the ludicrous garbage Beck has pumped on the airwaves and television in a shameless effort to garner ratings. Beck could say or do absolutely anything. And he would still have blokes like Pablo willing to pay hundreds of dollars to attend one of his rallies.

As I pointed out in response to Colby’s other amateurish attempt at a home spun hit piece:

So, there is the story as written by Colby Hall, and there are the facts. What’s new?

    Colby exudes the following:

“Well it appears that all of the posturing and rhetoric in the past few weeks regarding the contemptuous relationship between Glenn Beck and Fox News has lead to something after all.” And references NOT a statement from Mr. Beck, or Fox News, but a speculative hatchet job from the New York Slimes.

Then, there is the statement taken from a JOINT press conference between Fox News and Mercury Radio Arts, wherein we read their relationship is ANYTHING but “contemptuous.” (It sounded more like a meeting of the Mutual Admiration Society, but we would never know that if all we had to go on was the New York Slimes and the liberal hack Colby Hall!)

I have taken the liberty of copying referenced comments for the convenience of the reader of this post.

FOX NEWS AND MERCURY RADIO ARTS ANNOUNCE NEW AGREEMENT
(New York, NY) Fox News and Mercury Radio Arts, Glenn Beck’s production company, are proud to announce that they will work together to develop and produce a variety of television projects for air on the Fox News Channel as well as content for other platforms including Fox News’ digital properties. Glenn intends to transition off of his daily program, the third highest rated in all of cable news, later this year.

Roger Ailes, Chairman and CEO of Fox News said, “Glenn Beck is a powerful communicator, a creative entrepreneur and a true success by anybody’s standards. I look forward to continuing to work with him. ”

Glenn Beck said: “I truly believe that America owes a lot to Roger Ailes and Fox News. I cannot repay Roger for the lessons I’ve learned and will continue to learn from him and I look forward to starting this new phase of our partnership.”

Joel Cheatwood, SVP/Development at Fox News, will be joining Mercury Radio Arts effective April 24, 2011. Part of his role as EVP will be to manage the partnership and serve as a liaison with the Fox News Channel.

Roger Ailes said: “Joel is a good friend and one of the most talented and creative executives in the business. Over the past four years I have consistently valued his input and advice and that will not stop as we work with him in his new role.”

“Glenn Beck” is consistently the third highest rated program on cable news.

For the 27 months that “Glenn Beck” has aired on Fox News, the program has averaged more than 2.2 million total viewers and 563,000 viewers 25-54 years old, numbers normally associated with shows airing in primetime, not at 5pm. “Glenn Beck” has dominated all of its cable news competitors since launch.

Now we have something to work with to help us analyze the story as based on FACTS!

FACT: Glenn Beck begins work each morning at 6:00 AM, and ends his regular duties when he signs off at 6:00 PM. (Unless, of course, he hangs around to appear on Bill O’Reilly’s program.) Then, he goes home to spend some time with his family and to do some more work–reading and research. (Having owned several businesses in my professional life, I know that 60-hour weeks are not uncommon, but after a few years, such a pace would take its toll on even Superman.)

FACT: Mr. Beck has hired Mr. Cheatwood to do what? TO WORK ON THE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN (implying TWO parties) GLENN BECK AND ROGER AILES! (Is this getting through to you Colby? Can you not understand that you have been caught flagrante dilecti in the middle of your amateurish attempt at a hit piece on Fox and Mr. Beck?)

FACT: Mr. Ailes noted that Mr. Beck’s program has CONSISTENTLY enjoyed the third-highest ratings in all of cable news. Since the other two highest ratings in all of cable news are ALSO on Fox, does it make anything resembling sense that Mr. Ailes might not want Mr. Beck to hang around? It might make sense to the New York Slimes, and it might make sense to a libtard like you Colby, but it makes NO sense to anyone with an ounce of rationale.

There are MANY more facts that you have conveniently overlooked Colby, but I’ll trust the readers of this post–IF it is allowed to remain on this site–to ferret those out on their own.

    SPECULATION:

If I had a young family–as does Mr. Beck–and if I had all the money I would ever need in life, and if I took a horrible time slot and made it a total success (along with the best selling books, the third most listened to radio program in the history of radio, various wildly successful charitable endeavors, and what may well have been the largest and most peaceful rally in the history of Washington DC), I might want to see what else there is “out there” that I can make a success at doing, that would ALSO allow me to spend a little more time with my family.

There is also the possiblity that Mr. Beck is losing his eyesight (but NOT his VISION), and that could well be a concern for his future endeavors. Mr. Beck has not mentioned this, and I pray that his problems with his eyesight have been mitigated, but it’s STILL an unknown factor worthy of consideration.

    SUMMARY:

I don’t pretend to know what might be Mr. Beck’s plans for his future, but I am reasonably confident that whatever it is he may wish to do will be done with INTEGRITY and HONESTY, and it will be INFORMATIVE, TRUTHFUL, INTERESTING and it will be a SUCCESS.

So Colby, and all you other liberal hacks and hatchet people, you have not defeated Glenn Beck and you had NO influence on his joint arrangement with Fox News. If you wish to think you did, enjoy your delusion.

    ADDENDUM:

You have NOT seen the last of Mr. Glenn Beck.
